How I think about the work
Understand it first
I start by finding the actual problem — from outside, a slow query and a wrong assumption look the same.
Security from the start
Login checks, validation and hardening go in at the start, not bolted on at the end.
Measured, not guessed
If I say something is faster, I measured it. If I haven't, I'll say that instead.
Reliable beats clever
I'd rather ship the simple version that stays up than the clever one that needs babysitting.
